BRIGHT SUNSHINE.

FINE WEEK-END CONDITIONS

RECOVERY OF PASTURES. Bright and sunny weather was experienced in Auckland at the week-end, the change being very welcome after the boisterous and showery conditions which had prevailed at intervals during the past three weeks. On Saturday, in spite of the blazing sunshine, there was sufficient keenness in the air to make the day ideal for field sports, the show and the picnics that were held. Yesterday, the beaches were again crowded and the excursion steamers and launches were fully patronised. Along the waterfront road there was a continuous procession of motor-cars. Auckland's colour scheme has undergone a wonderful change as a result of the refreshing rains. Parks and gardens, where there were stretches of parched, brown grass, to-day are rich green swards, pleasantly broken with zinnias and asters and other later summer flowers. Roses that were checked by the heavy rain are coming on again, while conditions are now ideal for autumn bulbs.

Further afield than the city, in the market gardens and the pastures of the provinces, the rai| has worked even greater wonders. Vegetables are now growing freely and are coming into the markets in greater quantities every day. Not for some years have mushrooms been so plentiful.

For some time there was grave fear that the dairy pastures would be so burned by the hot weather that the cows would go off to such an extent that recovery would be impossible. To-day, however, as a result of the fresh growth, the pastures are in great heart to carry the dairy herds 011 to the winter.
