BIG-GAME FISHING.
CATCHES AT WHANGAROA. YACHT" NAHLIN ARRIVES. [BY TELEGBAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAROA, Thursday. Fishing from the launch Hazel, Miss Gladys Yule, of the yacht Nahlin, landed a hammerhead shark, which fought well. When it was secured marks were foulul of recent conflicts, presumably with sword fish.
Dr. G. Pearce, of New York, fishing from the launch Rosemary, had a thrilling hour with a swordfish of 2741b., which played well on the surface after taking the trolled bait. Mr. C. Stewart, of Singapore, also secured a fine swordfish weighing 2341b. from the launch Avalon. Fishing during the past three days has been ' quiet, but ' with the approaching tides and better weather conditions a groat improvement is expected this weekend. J he yacht Nahlin arrived at Whangaroa at 2.30 p.m. yesterday and anchored at the Heads, near the cottage occupied bv Ladv Yule. SPORT AT TAURANQA. THREE LARGE SWORDFISH. [from our own correspondent. ] TAURANGA, Thursday. A party on board the launch Naomi captured three swordfish off Mayor Island. Mr. J. G. Tennent, of Waikaremoana, secured a swordfish weighing 3511b., Mr. W. D. Home, of Masterton, a swordfish of 2391b., and Mr. J. H. Lyttle, of Masterton, a swordfish of 3251b. The swordfish fought gamely, and numerous others were ?een.
