THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.
REVIVAL OF ACTIVITY. After a quiet, period at the beginning of the week there was a marked increase in business on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. There was a substantial turnover of Government securities, chiefly at tho noon call, but inquiries were not made over so wide a range as usual. Prices were on a par with late rates. Business was done in Inscribed Stock, 1937, 5£ per cent., at prices varying bet ween £OB 12s 6d, Iho last current rate, and £9B 7s 6d. Hamilton Borough debentures, 1913, per cent., changed hands at £9O 10s. There was slightly increased inquiry for bank shares, but in somo instances the figures offered were lower. Buyers of Now Zoalands dot-lined from 44s 6d to 44s and sellers weakened by 3d to 44s 9d. A sale of National Banks was made at £3 10s, a decline of 6d on the most recent price. Bank of Australasias declined Is In sell at £0 19s. In insuranro New Zoalands were also a shade weaker and sold at 375, as compared with 37s 6d three days earlier. There was little variation iu loan and agency shares. Taupiri coals were inquired for at 12s 6d, holders asking 17s. Buyers of British Tobacco reduced tlnjir offer by 3d to 25s 6d, sellers continuing to ask 26s 6d. Following on a dull period, renewed interest was shown in Auckland Gas, and they sold at 22s 3d and 22s 2d, as compared with 22s at tho beginning of the month. Business was again done in Colonial Sugars at tho most recent rate of £37 15s. Woolworlhs prefcrcnco issue cum rights was sought at 255, but none was offering. 'J he mining section was quiet. Buyers of Waihis advanced their offer 2d to 16s Bd.
