ELLERSLIE TRAINING.

GAY COCKADE'S GALLOP.

A SOUND SEVEN FURLONGS.

HAMPTON PARK AND IMAMINT.

BY ARCHER

Having benefited by Inst week's rnin. (he tracks nt Ellerslio were in great order for training operations yesterday, when ! sovernl smart gallops were recorded. Tlio fast work wns divided between the course proper, where the flags were out. 25ft., and the No. 2 crass, and tho beat of iho morning wna registered hy Gny Cockade, who covered seven furlongs on tho course proper in 1.29 4-5.

On tho course proper Roman Mascot (Parsons) wns not bustled to run four furlongs in 55 2 ss. Tip to the present Roman Mascot's form has not reached expectations, but she is an improving filly who should perform creditably in tho juvenile handicaps at Te Rnpa. Puriri Park (Jenkins) and Spring Abhev (Connor) jumped off some lengths ahead of Rose La tour (fair weight), who showed a disinclination to begin, and led her over seven furlongs in 1.35. Puriri Park was under restraint all the wnv and could have improved considerably on the time recorded. Spring Abbey went very and •should be ready to show some form again soon.

Tho Norse, who recently returned to tho tracks after a long absence, covered six furlongs in 1,2'2 2-5 an 1 wna tiring badly at the finish. The Norge looks as if he has hnd n fair amount of useful work, but it will take some time yet before he i 3 thoroughly ready. Llanoro (Fergus) Knd Mnhkill (Bighani) ran their first three, furlongs in 37 .'Mis and completed six furlongs in 1.17 1-3. Llanore. who is in fine condition, went very freehand Mnhkill gave a good display for a novice. Mahkill will probably be raced nt To Aroha. Patutahi's Mile. Gay Cockade (Clifford), after running tho first. half-mile in 50 l-ss, was going on strongly at the conclusion of seven furlongs in 1.29 4-5. It was a nice effort in spite of the fact that Gay Cockado was not carrying much weight, and it. drew attention to his prospects in tho Puketnha liigh-weicbt Handicap at To Rnpa to-morrow. Patutahi (fair weight), with the Kilbroney filly in A. Kemp's stable to assist over tho last half, covered ft mile in 1.47 3-5. Patutahi is looking very bright and healthy and should be rendy for a solid effort, either oi) tho flat or .over hurdles the first time ho strikes an easy track. Vilriia (Clifford) dashed over four ftirlones in 49 l-ss, a creditable effort for a novice, more especially a,s her rider was sitting still at tho finish. Vilnia ha-d to bo stopped in her work for a week or two last month, but i 3 again doing well and will be raced at Pukekohe next month.

On tho No. 2 grass Brampton and Neil completed a useful task with three furlongs in 42 2-f>s. Brampton ran badly at Rotorua and will require to do much bettor to havo prospects of success at the coming meetings. Neil is carrying a healthy appearance nnd seems to be thriving on tho useful tasks he is being allotted. Vnndyke (Simpson) sprinted fivo furloncs in 1.4. Vandyke hns lately been doing most of his work on tho tan, and, besides looking very bright, he. ia nlso going very freely. In tho past Vandyke hns run his best races on soft tracks and he can . bo relied upon for a solid efifort tho first time ho gets tho going easy. Escalus Sprints Smartly. Hampton Park (Simpson) and Imamint (Parsons) dashed over four furlongs in 48 3-ss. Hampton Park, who held a slight advantage, was going renlly well at tho finish and is now better than at any previous stag© of tho season. Jmnmint wns tiring at tho end. but sho is thriving and will win races later on if Bhe stands up to her work.

Manawhenua and Whirlalong were companions in a short sprint, but were not timed. Msnawhenija is a picture of health and is improving with every gallop, so that ho may come on more auickly than expected. EBcalus (Parsons) sprinted half a mile in 50 2-ss. and Psychologist (Connor) placed the same distance behind in 51s. Psychologist, who went fast over tho first couple of furlongs and slowed up at the end. is freshening up and is now working with more freedom than when he first camo to Ellerslie. Marching Song (Ryan) strode along steadily for sis furlongs in 1.31 2-5, and Morehu (Chaplin) Tan four furlongs from a stand in 53 2-sa. A number of horses was allotted useful work on the tan, among those to accomplish serviceable tasks being Sir Archie, Desert Star, Catoma, Golden Spahi and Taneriri. TAKANINI TRACK NEWS. GOOD MILE BY CHIEF JOY. TEA TRADER AND HIGH COMEDY. Recent rain has benefited tho tracks at Takanini and the outside grass, on which all the fast work was done, was in splendid order yesterday. Holly Lu (Gilmoro) and Greek Gold (Taylor) ran half a milo in 525. Both youngsters worked freely and will be ill good order to race at Te Aroha. Camp Princess (Taylor) beat Exaggeration (Gilmer) by n. length at the Olid of half a mile in 50 4-ss. Camp Princess worked well, but both marcs may be in need of a race to sharpen them up. Jonker (Bagby) sprinted freely from the bottom of the straight. This colt appears to have made good progress sinco he ran third at Takapuna. - Huntingdon (Burgess) led Heremia (Craig) in the early stages of a half-mile f.prijit. but the latter overtook him at the finish, both coming home strongly in 50 l-ss. Theso two promise to make bold showings in their engagements at To Aroha. Timorous (Moore) put a lot, of dash into a short sprint up tho straight. This fillv has had several stoppages in her preparation. but is now doing well. Chief Joy (Jones), with the assistance of Envoy. (Gilmer) over tho last six' furlongs, ran a mile in 1.4:t. He was ridden out and beat Envoy decisively at tho_ finish, tho last six furlongs taking 1.15 *l-5. It. was a good gallop on tho outside and showed that Chief Joy is in good order for his Storey Memorial engagement • Tho best sprint of tho morning was recorded by Tea Trader (Walters) and Hjch Comedy (Horne),_ the two-year-old finishing a head in front in 48 4-ss. It was a wv smart effort that was well done by both horses. • Bronze Eagle (Burgess) was going at, his case alongsido Night Warrior (Crnig) at tho end of five furlongs in 1.3. Bronze Eagle worked in his usual free stylo and Night Warrior's display was tho best ho has yet given and suggests that he is now on the upgrade. Royal . Artipt . (Horne) and Ganpat (Walters) were responsible for a brilliant piece of work.' The former went, seven furlongs in 1.29. and Ganpat, wno joined in over tho last six and a-half furlongs, finished on terms, going .slightly tho better at the end. Both horses demonstrated that they are in fine shape to race at To Rapa. Refresher (Bagby) was a length in front of Hard Words (.Tours) at the end of half n mile in 40s. As Refresher had a gnod weight in the saddle, his effort was a very smart one. , „ , Braznnna (Gilmer) and Arch Ruler (Fnrroll) hit out freely while sprinting uu the straight. There was littlo between Eaglet (Jones) and Hnuwiri (Bagb.v) over half a milo in 51s. Hnuwiri is to have his first, race tomorrow, and, although inexperienced, he should make a creditable showing Golondrilia, a newcomer in J. Forgesnn a charge, did an easy sprint up the straight. Principal (Taylor) and Imperial Prince (Leach) pave a good display over six hurdle.*. These horses are progressing well in their schooling and are due to make their first oppearanco pt, To Aroha. < WAIKATO REHANDICAPS.

WILD COUNTRY REAPPEARS.

After an absence of several months Wild Country lihb made a reappearance at Ellerslie. where, she is being pottered about preparatory to resuminir regular work on the tracks. Wild Country is carrying some surplus condition after her spell and it will ho late in the season bofore 11. Rania has her ready to race, again. Hitherto she has always raced best on eoft, tracks and she should be all the better for having been allowed to rest whila the tracks were hard during tho summer.
