YOUNG MAN IMPRISONED.

THEFTS FROM A PAVILION

Caught by a constable in the vicinity of thp Auckland Bowling Club's pavilion on February 6 with a mispellaneous collection of cutlery and crockery in his pockets, a labourer, William Roberts, aged 24, appeared in the Police Court yesterday on charges of wilfully damaging two padlocks on the premises of the bowling club, and With stealing teaspoons, knives, cups and other articles, valued at 18s 6d. Accused pleaded not guilty. A charge of breaking •nd entering was withdrawn.

In a statement made from the dock accused said his " cobber " hul broken the locks and loaded him up with the stolen goods against.- his .will. He had then; " cleared off "■ as soon as the two were disturbed.

Detective-Sergeant Dovle said accused had been before the Court five iimes. Ho cvl no work and his mother had to keep him.

"She will not have to keep him for a while from now on." said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in sentencing accused to three months' imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative.
