AMERICAN STEAMERS.
I sir,—Can nothing he done to prohibit American steamers from carrying passengers and cargo between New Zoalaiid and Australia? We should take a lesson from America. N<> British ships can carry passengers or cargo between two American ports. 1 Give them a tasio of their own shipping law by prohibiting them from Inking passengers or cargo between New Zealand and Australia, and leave the, Australian Government to follow our lead and ban them from taking cargo and passengers from Australia to New Zealand. It, is the only way to save our intercolonial passenger trade from ruin. Jf nothing is done there will be more ships laid up, and a great increase in the number of unemployed seamen. Why should we favour a nation that do their utmost by tariff to prevent us trailing with them? -Fair. J'lay.
