PRESS CONFERENCE.

ACTIVITIES OF DELEGATES. ANNUAL MEETINGS TO-DAY. An active day was spent yesterday by the delegates to the conference of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association. A number of committee meetings was held in the morning under the chairmanship of Mr. A. McNicol, of Dannevirke, for the representatives of the smaller newspapers and those which are published only twice or three times a week. These meetings were followed at noon by the annual meeting of the New Zealand section of the Empire Press Union, under the direction of the chairman, Mr. H. Horton, of Auckland. In the afternoon the delegates, their wives and a number of representative business men were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Wilson at a garden party at their residence, St. Leonards, Takapnna. In the evening the delegates attended a further session of the advertising convention organised by tile advertising group of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. The chairman was Mr. M. Stewart, past president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. The speakers we're Mr. A. Goodwin, of Carlton-Car-ruthers, Limited, who gave an illustrated address on " Art in Advertising," and Mr. Will Appleton, of the Charles Haines Advertising Agency, Limited, who spoke on " The Present and Future of Advertising." This morning the annual meeting of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association will be held, and this will be followed by a luncheon in the Milne and Choyee Reception Hall, at which the delegates will be the guests of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. The speaker will be Mr. R. J. Gilmour, of Invercargill, whoso address will be on " Tho Relation of Newspapers and Newsgathering Agencies Throughout tho Empire." After the luncheon the annual meeting of the United Press Association will be held, under the chairmanship of Mr. A. M. Burns, of Christchurch. At 3.30 p.m. to-day the delegates will be the guests of Mr. H. Horton in the Milne and Choyco reception Hall, when a. presentation will be made to Mr. C. W. Enrle, of Wellington, president of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association. This evening they will attend the last session of the convention, at which Mr. H. Turner, vice-president of tho Auckland Chamber of Commerce, will preside. Mr. Frank Goldberg, governing director of the Gol-'berg Advertising Agency, Limited, will speak on " Advertising as a Stimulus to Trade," and Mr. R. E. Barrowrlough, LL.B., will deal with Advertising in its Legal Aspects."
