SUNDAY BOWLS.
UNPOPULAR IN CITIES. Sunday howling is not popular in Cliristchurch, and on those greens where Sunday play is permitted, few games lako place on that rlav, says a southern exchange. Provided clubs arc owners of their greens, they may conduct the game on Sundays, hut I lie Dominion Bowling Association has decided that no tournament, play shall take place on that day. Should a club violate this rule, it would lose its affiliation with the association. "Bowlers may bo placed in a separate class as far as their game is concerned," said Mr. W. G. Brass, secretary of the association. "They arc for the most part men who have tho leisure or the facilities which enable them to enjoy a game whenever they like. They have all Saturday afternoon for competition games, and when Sunday koines they fool that they have had enough of the game for one week. Some of them arc able to got in an hour's play each day, especially about this time of the year, with the long evenings, and tho feeling is that Sunday should be kept free. "The same position obtains in the North Island and other South Island trtwns," continued Mr. Brass. "I do not think Sunday bowling will over be popular in New Zealand. At a meeting of tho Canterbury Centre the Canterbury Club delegate moved that Sunday tournament play be allowed, but the motion was lost. Canterbury is one of the clubs where Sunday plnv is allowed, but, the motion found no support from others in the same position." *
