NAVAL GUNNERY.
PRACTICE IN THE GULF.
WARSHIP USING LARGE TARGET.
Towing the large target which will be used for gunnery practice, 11. M.S. Diomede left for the llauraki Gulf yesterday afternoon. The cruiser is under the command of Pear-Admiral Geoffrey Blake, who returned from Wellington on Saturday morning after attending a meeting of the Navil Board. After leaving port the Diomede broadcast the following navigation warning:— 150 ft. target will be anchored 4 miles, 197 degrees, true, from Flat Pock, llauraki Gulf, until Wednesday morning. Diomede will be anchored close to this target at night. Heavy gun firing will be carried out at target between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday." The gunnery practice is expected to be concluded on Thursday afternoon, when the cruiser will return to port with tho target.
