ROADS IN BACK BLOCKS.
/WORK OF IMPROVEMENT. WHAKATANE COUNTY CAMPS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WHAKATANE, Friday. Advice has been received by the Whakatane County Council that the Government has decided to establish local • roading camps under the recent grant for back-block roads. The work is to be undertaken by registered unemployed, at contract prices, estimated to return 6d a day. The total grant for this district is as follows:—Metalling of Stanley Road, between Wamui Road, near Kufarere, to Waimana Gorge Road, near Taneatua, £400; metalling Fortune's Road, on tlio eastern Rangitaiki Plains, £150; and Manawahe Road, £2OO. Arrangements are now being made to establish camps in the localities concerned.
