FURTHER assaults planned. JAPANESE ENTER HARBIN. :i# The Japanese forces at Shanghai on Thursday launched •: thfcir greatest offensive against the Chinese, backed by an artillery Ijombardment and aerial bombers. There were heavy casualties on both sides. V Fighting continued all Thursday night, and all cover at - Chapei and the vicinity has been destroyed, forcing the Chinese into open country. The Japanese intend to land an army division to attack the Chinese flank. Admiral Shiozawa, commander of the Japanese naval forces at Shanghai (who is reported to have been superseded), informed an American journalist that in two days more Shanghai would have finished with the horrors of war. He indicated his intention of driving the Chinese five or six miles away from the International Settlement by loosing his full forces against them once they were in retreat. More Japanese guns and men were on the way to Shanghai. In Manchuria the Japanese, forces have entered Harbin.
