ROYAL SQUADRON'S RACE. | CRUISING EVENT TO KAWAU. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron's cruising race to Kawau, for keel .yachts, started off King's Wharf at 7 o'clock last evening. Weather conditions were very favourable, a south-west breeze This gave the boats a run to North_ Head and a lead to Mansion House Bay, Kawau. ! A record number of boats faced the starter, I no fewer than 19 competing, including tiie ! yacht Teddy, which is competing un- ! officially. At gunfire all made for the line in c.ose formation. Nga-Toa (3m), Ariki (scr) and ; Janet (36m) crossed too soon nnd were j recalled, the first-named losing 2m 50s. ; ! Ariki 2m. and Janet 6m. ' Of the actual start Waione was first j I 'iway, closely followed by Torangi (lm). j Kawene U2im). Little Jim (20lm>. Wairik> ( | (25m), Victory (155 m), Moana (14m), Kotiri | (22m). Prize (llim). Ilex (20m), Ladye ; : Wiima (205 m), Windward (22} m), Waitangi j i (18m), Kotuku (35? m), Ida (15} m), and Teddy (38»m). On the run down the harbour most of | (he boats set spinnakers, lorangi taking: th«, I lead, closely followed by Victory and ' Rawene. Off Devonport Rawene, Jim and Moana passed Waione. Rounding North | Head lorangi had a good lead from Victory. Rawene*. Little Jim, Moana and Waione. A short distance astern the order w&e ae follows:—Kotere. Prize. Windward. Ariki, Nga-Toa, Wairiki. Waitangi, Ida, Ladye Wilma, Ilex, Kotuku, Janet and Teddy. The boats were expected to reach Kawan } about 11.30 o'clock laat night. Three races | will be held at Kawau this afternoon. I
