FIREMAN OVERPOWERED. i i [UY TELEGRAPH. —PRKSS ASSOCIATION. | WELLINGTON, Friday. A fireman, John Joseph Howard, aged 44, when stopped by a customs officer on leaving the Marama yesterday, rushed to the side of the wharf and threw a parcel into the water. The officer and the fireman came to grips and the latter was caught iri a head lock and thrown. At the Police Court to-day Howard was fined £lO for resisting the customs officer j and £1 for stealing a pound of butter | which he had wrapped in the parcel, in 1 default one month's imprisonment.
