MAN'S SERIES OF THEFTS. " STEALING WHERE ME CAN." Four charges of theft and two other charges relating to the illegal possession of firearms were admitted by Stephen Henry Mclntyre, who appeared voluntarily in the Police Court yesterday. He was charged with stealing two boxes of rifle cartridges, valued at ss; an electric torch, valued at 4s; a tin of benzine, valued at 8s; and tools, valued at 10s. Accused was also charged with obtaining a rifle without taking out a permit, and with having in his possession a rifle longer than seven days without being the registered owner. At the same time, Dorothy Caroline Edenborough, aged 34, was charged with stealing a riding saddle, valued at £ll 15s Id, the property of tho Farmers' Trading Company, Limited. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said the thefts by Mclntyre were all committed at VVhangamata or Waihi. Accused claimed to have had the rifle for two years, and admitted failing to register it. He had been quite frank when questioned, and had given the police every assistance. "He lias been stealing wherever he can," the magistrate said, in remanding accused until to-morrow for sentence. When Edenborough admitted the theft of the saddle, Mr. Kelly explained she had bought it on time payment arid had disposed of it while there was still £4 10s remaining to be paid. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within six months, and ordered to make restitution of £4 10s Bohcrt Kirkness, aged 40, a painter, adniHterl stealing a bicycle valued at £7 at Wellington on September 30 Detective-Sergeant Kelly said accused took the bicycle from outside the. Workmen's Club at Pet one, and was arrested by J he police at Pahiatna. Counsel said accused bad really bought Hie bicycle at Napier, but had no receipt to prove the deal. Accused was sentenced to two months' imprisonment.
