JAYSDN'S END-TO-END WIN. GREEN LINNET'S SURPRISE. VICTORY FOR DUNRAVEN. [BY VELEORATH.—RACING REPORTER.] WELLINGTON. "Wednesday. Jaysoi 's eud-to-end win in the Trcntham High-weight K ndicap waa meritorious, but Royal Limond was most unlucky. Royal Limoiul drew the rails, but was chopped right bick, and then, after having to go round the field., and being very wido out coming into the straight, finished eixth. Jayson began fast from No. 13 at the post and was never headed. Shootist and In Vain ciasecl him, but could not go on with it, and it was left to the outsider Retract to issae an unavailing challenge. BB»bricgo tiniiihed fairly well for third, and tin in ciimo Appledore, Actaeon, Royal Limond Bnbel and Elude, Babel, ridden by A. !3. Ellis, was a warm favourite, but did not begin well. At ait inquiry after tho race I. Tucker, rider o' Baiabridge, was suspended for one calendar month for careless riding. . Head Lady led throughout in tho Wellington Stakes. She was on the extreme outside at the post and displayed fine speed J to take charge immediately and withstand all challenges. Tea Trader, Tea Chat, La Moderns and Golden Winga followed her .into the Straight., In the run'home Tea Trader could make no impi-ession on her, while Chat and La Moderne could not improv'k upon third and fourth respectively. La Mo'!erne> encountered trouble from number 01111 position and had to go round the field. Golden Wings also received a check in the early running. Head Lady wns passed in at 35 guineas at the yearling sales list January, and was subsequently bought by tin; Wangamii trainer, W. 11. Dwyer. She has thus proved a bargain. An i tquiry was held into the interference met, with b;y Gold Trail, Golden Wings and Prince PcmbAU After examining the jockeys who rode in the race, the judicial committee fbund that the trouble was caused by tho outside horses coming in. but could lot, apportion the blame to any particular jockey. Huremia's Fine Finish. The Taknnini-lraincd Hercmia recorded a , etrikin.; performance in the Apprentices' l'lute, being last hut one three, furlongs from 1 onie, and making a fine run in the straight,, tc win comfortably at the end. Grand Lahu -mil Chief Clerk showed out early, and then Beacon Fire assumed command and came into the straight. with Azalea and Princess Argosy abre.ißt. Gnnpat forged through on the inside to lead at fh< false rail, and Oratorian also becamt prominent. Heremia's fast run on tho outside curried him to the front 50yds. from ,he 'post and lie won going a way. Oratorian lan a good race for second. Princess Argosy tired after being made a lot of use of from a rear, position. Ganpat faded into fnurtli place after looking tt likely winnei. G rand Lahu. Bcacou Fire, Landmark ind .\znlen were next. Couityard, ridden by R. Reed, was a hot favourite for the Fifzherhert Handicap, in spite r>f the fart that he was on (he extreme outside at the barrier. Beginning fast, ic woB up bandy, but wide out nt. the straight entrance behind Silver R:tig. Arena and Princess Bell. Silver Ring made no nire of it, in the straight and Fcored easily fron\ .Arena, with Princess Bell third, and Courtyard fourth. Hilary, Gaine Car rington, Copper King, Late .Test and Mistei Qi.ex followed. This was Silver I'ing'i 'first win and the time he recorded wns 1 nlf t, second better than that in the Wellington Stakes. He is the first hor?e his ovner, Mr. D. Fraser. of C'hristchurch, has need. Silver Ring paid a good doublefigure dividend. Great Cup Contest. A t Trilling finish in the Wellington Cup saw Compris, who drifted in the betting to 10th favourite, snatch victory by half a head from Jaloux. with Royal Love a neck away third. It wns a great race throughout. ;nd the time, 2m '29s. is a record for Australia and New Zealand. Comprip was a lons way back in the first mile, and three furlonirs font home there were only two heI hind lim. He then came with a brilliant run t) gain well-merited honours, Arrow Lad, jSateem and-Great Star, abreast, swept past the etaiid in the lead from a good start, nnd Arrow Lad showed the way along the bt ck to Esteem,- Great Star, Gay Crest. Monalof. Jaloux and Spearful. Royal Love made a fust run into third place behind Arrow Lad and Esteem five furlongs from home, and' this order was maintained into the s raight. with Great Star, Jaloux and Gay ["rest following. Royal Love dashed to the frort tt the distance, and Jnloux had just ;:ot the better of him when Compris range) up to beat them both. R. Reed's horsemanship played an important, part in the si ccesn of Compris. Peter Jackson came from a long way back for fourth, and (lay Crest, Spearful.- Great Star, Black Duke and iidmi:ral Brake followed. Chrysology, well ridden by H. Gray, got up to defeat Gold Pit by half a neck in the Anniversary Handicap. Gold Pit. took the lend ?arly, and Ball Dress and Chryaology followed her into the straight. Ball Dress then dropped out and a good struggle ended in Chrysologv wresting the verdict, from Cold Pit in the last few strides. Shatter, finishing i'ast, was two lengths away third, succeeded by Minerval. Nightmare, Bpenr Lad, Don Jose and Awaken. Awaken, who was secorid favourite to Gold Pit. lost grourd at the start and never looked dangerous. Defsiat of Cadland. Green Linnet surprised by romping home an 08sy winner from the hot favourite, Cadland. in the Telegraph Handicap, and raying over e-quarter of a century. Green Linnet was well back early, but fairly overwhelmed C'odland just when he looked a certa.nty. The earlv lenders wero Exultant, lioyal Routine. Leisure. Cadland and Arisns. Equi'lant unci Cadland came on to the course proper together, followed by Royal Routine, Leisure Wise Choice, Autopay. Gesture and Green Lir;net.
