RACING CARNIVAL.
jJjLEESLIE SECOND DAY. FAVOURITES fare badly. TWO LARGE DIVIDENDS. COURSE RECORDS BROKEN. JALOUX AND ARISUS. An accident that resulted in the death pf the apprentice -jockey H. E. Stocklev, whose mount Exaggeration fell in the g rs t race, provided a sad opening for the fpcond day of the Auckland Pacing fluh's Summer Meeting at Ellerslie yesterday. The weather was again perfect and the track was fast. Two course records were established, one by Jaloux in the Summer Cup and the other by Aristis in the Electric Handicap. Favourites fared very badly, tho only o ne to win being Bronze Eagle, who jcored brilliantly in the King's Plate. There were two exceptionally large dividends, Kawainga, who won the Ponsonby Hurdles, and Hit the Deck, winner of the Fergusson Handicap, both being rank outsiders. The attendance was estimated at 10,000, compared with 12,000 on the second day last year. The totalisator handled £36,111 10s, against £56,517 a year ago. a decrease of £20,405 10s, or 56 per cent. For the two days so far the investments total £107,749 10s, compared with £155.604 10s, a decrease of £47,855, or 50 per cent. Results: — FERGUSSON HANDICAP, Of £250; 1 mile. 12—HIT THE DECK, H.
