WAITEMATA POWER.

EXTENSION TO WHENUAPAI. INCREASE IN CROSS SALES. A decision to proceed with the extension of the power service from Waimarie to Whenuapai was reached by the Waitemata Electric-Power Board yesterday. Mr. G. Trevithick presided in the absence of the chairman, Mr. H. A. Robertson.

Mr. Trevithick moved the. adoption of the report of the secretary. Mr. A. Main, suggesting that to keep faith with the Local Government Loans Board £643 should bo expended from loans on the extension and a further £2OO should be transferred from the reserve funds to the loan account. This procedure would be in accordance with the estimated cost of £843 for the extension.

Several members expressed doubt regarding the. departure from the ordinary method of financing such a work, but Mr. Main pointed out that the only difference was the. way in which the line was being subsidised. It would be possible to obtain a return in accordance with tho "Loans Board's requirements. The amount required was £l4O. Of this. £lO6 had been guaranteed and there was a reasonable prospect that, the figure would be made up within 12 months. The motion was carried, a, number of members stating that the board would be conferring a benefit, on the farming community.

Submitting the financial returns for the month. Mr. Main said the gross sales. £5693, represented an increase, of £343 on those during the corresponding period in 1950. For eight months ended November 30, the gross sales were £56,613. an increase of £3222. In this period the discount allowed to consumers was £11,020. compared with £6560 for the corresponding period in the previous year. The engineer, Mr. F. J. H. Wilson, reported that there had been a renewed demand for supply in the East Coast bays. Extensions had been made at Te Atatu and Kaurilands Boad, Titirangi.
