This is in accordance with the Act. "Worried," Pirongia.—Old age pensioners are exempt from both the general levy and the emergency charge. "Hard Hit."—You may deduct the amount of the debt incurred, but you are liable on J.he net income, if any. and should use form UB 55. Household expenses are not to be deducted. If you are 'unable to pay, you should take the matter up with the Commisrioner of Unemployment. "Perplexed," Taniwha.—lt should be shown on the form that the amount, is a loss. No tax would bo payable, but the declaration is required. "Bamboozled." Matiere.—The loss on the old engine may 'be deducted. Each is required to make a declaration. "Uncertain." -Your wife is certainly liable to pay trie emergency tax. ft is not even certain that the £250 is exempt. In any case the £6O is taxable. "Paddy," Auckland.—You are not liable on either the CSO received under the insurance policy, or on the money taken for paddocking. Rosa Dartle. —You aie not entitled to deduct the cost of children's books, nor your wife's wages. The boys' wages may bo deducted only if actually paid, and in this event, 3d in tho pound should be deducted from their wages, and stamps affixed as from August 1 this year.
