ROWING.
THE CHAMPIONSHIP DATE.
AUCKLAND'S REQUEST GRANTED. Advice has been received from the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association that permission has been granted for the championship regatta to be held either on January 29 or <3O at Hamilton. This matter was decided at a special meeting of the council, the motion being carried by 12 votes to 4. The controversy which has been carried on since the application of the Auckland Rowing Association to have the championships at Hamilton next year was granted, was in connection with rule iB, which states that the championships shall not be rowed before January 31 each year. In 1932 this date falls oij a Sunday, and for this reason it was necessary to waive the rule by a unanimous vote of all the rowing associations to hold the regatta on the previous day. Both Wellington and Wanganui, however, refused up to the last to agree and it was only possible to arrive at the above decision through a special meeting of the New Zealand Rowing Council.
