JOHNNY CAKE.
An old bushman's recipe for Johnny eake is one cup of self-raising flour, a pinch of salt, and enough water to makp a light dough. Do not have the mixture too stiff. Roll lightly to the thickness of half-an-inch, cut into several pieces and drop into a frying pan of boiling fat from which a light smoke is already rising. Cook for five minutes. Be careful to have fat really boiling, or otherwise the cake will be greasy.
