WHANGAREI COUNTY.
PAY OF SURFACEMEN. MEETING TRAVELLING EXPENSES. ' [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WHANGA.REI, Friday. The Whangarei County Council to-day decided to pay travelling expenses to all surfacemen employed by the council. This decision was reached owing to the recent reductions in the men's wages, and members of the council felt that the expense of patrolling the roads of their respective ridings should be partly borne by the council. The men use their' own means of travelling, namely, motor-cycles, motor-cars and horses. Each member of the council is to act in conjunction with the engineer in estimating the amount to be paid as it affects his riding.
