CARTAGE OF CREAM.

PREVENTING OVERLAPPING. COMBINED ACTION URGED. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT."] HAMILTON. Thnrfdny. A conference convened by the Matamata County Council for the purpose of endeavouring to reach some agreement by which the practice of overlapping in the cartage of cream could be eliminated was held at Tirau to-day. Under existing arrangements the carriers for several dairy companies frequently traverse the same routes, resulting in increased expenses to the suppliers and excessive wear on roads. Representatives were present from the Matamata, Waipa. and Waikato County Councils, the Railway and Public Works Departments, and the New Zealand Cooperative. Sunny Park, Tokoroa, Ilitiuera and Te Poi Dairy Companies. Mr. M. E. Fitzgerald (Matamata County Council) explained the views taken by his council and submitted figures compiled to show the prevalence of overlapping by the transport services of the various companies. After several speakers had expressed the opinion that steps should bo taken to minimise the practice, a resolution was carried affirming that the timo had arrived when general meetings of the suppliers of all the companies should be held to go fully into the question. It was decided to call tho first meeting at Matamata early in the new year.
