MARKETS IN EUROPE.

VALUE OF EXHIBITIONS. NEW ZEALAND'S OPPORTUNITY. A suggestion that New Zealand might do much to promote her trade bv participating in European exhibitions was made by Dr. Rudolph Kuraz, Consul for Czecho-Slovalcia in Australia and New Zealand,'who arrived from Rotorua yesterday on his first visit to Auckland. "At present Czccho-Slovakia is importing chiefly wool from New Zealand, and then it conies indirectly through London, Hamburg or Rotterdam,"-said Dr. Kuraz. "If it Were possible for New Zealand to make its products known better by taking part in European international exhibitions, the volume of its trade would undoubtedly; increase. In Prague we have an International Fair twice a year, in March and in September, on which oc : easions our manufacturers exhibit- their products:, and other countries ■ interested in selling goods -to us, especially- raw materials, arrange their own exhibits. Such countries as the United States,, the Argentine and Mexico thus forward their interests, and ne:xt year we expect South Africa to have an exhibit of its own. Such exhibits are undoubtedly good advertisements, especially for those countries that are not specially familiar to European peoples." There was an excellent opportunity for the sale of New Zealand butter in Czechoslovakia, . which was obtaining her supplies at present from Denmark and Germany. Sausage skins and kauri gum were other New Zealand imports that would be acceptable.

Dr. Kuraz. said thajjj his lour. of the North Island had been particularly interesting owing to the similarity of the pastoral lands to his own country. "I have been away from my home for four and a-half years now," lie said, "and it was good to see so much beautiful green country that reminds me so much of Czechoslovakia. The grass, the cattle and tiie sheep grazing in comparatively small paddocks all take me back to Europe." - ■

Dr. Kuraz will leave by the Ulimarqa to-morrow on his return to Sydney, where his headquarters are established.
