GOLFER KILLED BY BALL.
ACCIDENT ON THE LINKS. STORY OF THE FATAL' STROKE. At an inquest in Melbourne regarding the death of Mr. J. A. Harris, o£ Kew, aged 42 years, who died from, injuries received when he was si rack on the head by a golf bail, the Government, pathologist, I>r. C. H. Mollison, stated that deceased died from the effects of a fractared skall and compression of the brain. Gerald Vincent CuSe, aged 15 yeare, said that in company with Mr. Harris and a companion nanvid Webster he was playing golf at the city links, Flemington. After Mr. Harris had driven off from the sixth tee he followed on with two more strokes before witness and Webster drove off. Webster drove off ner; and then witness followed. When witress was about to make his second stroke with his braasie Mr. Harris was standing ots the slope of a hill on the fairway abont 50yds. or 40yds. distant from the ball and in a position which witness regarded, as quite safe. In the stroke witness topped the ball, which bounced on the hard ground and then strnck Mr. Harris on the side of the head. Deceased placed his hands to his head and said, "It Lis given me 3 terrible headache." He then collapsed, but regained his feet when witness and Webster reached his side. Later he was taken to a doctor and then was admitted to a private hospital, where on the following day he died. The coroner found that death had been accidental.
