CONTESTS IN COUNTRY. MATCHES AT WHANGAREI. Correspondents of the Hi!bald report as follows on matches played on Saturday:— Whangaref.—Whangarei, four wickets for 211 (Wilson 81, Langlands 58 not out, Stevenson 25, Cowan 24). drew with Nomads, nine wickets for S3 (Foote> 2i not out). Onerahi, 153 (E. Whimp 35 not out. Hewlett 40). defeated Combined Services, 54 (Saul 27). Morrinsville.—Britomart, 112 and 131 (Somera 57, not out , defeated Cremona, 91 (Jones 55, not out). Te Awamutu.—Te Awacautu defeated Rukuhia, at Rukuhia, by 122 runs for eight wickets, declared, to 45. For Te Awamutu, M. Barnett scored 58, retired, and J. Muir 27. A. Boyd took six wickets for 47 for Kukuhia, and M. Barnett got eigh:; wickets for 29 for Te Awamutu High School, playing Kaipaki B, scored 111 for four wickets (Oram 48, R. Dalton 14, N. McMahon 39, J. Joll 24). Kaipaki B were all out for 20, J. Shaw taking seven, wickets for four run 3. Puahue defeated Kaipaki A and Te Kawa defeated Lako Road. OTAHTJHU ASSOCIATION. PROPOSAL ADOPTED. A proposal to form a cricket association in Otahuhu was adopted at a meeting of delegates from the various works and sports bodies held on Friday evening. The chairman, Mr. F. W. Grey, reported that the provisional committee had received good encouragement in the way of promised donations and equipment and that six teams had sought admission. There was the prospect o£ eisht teams being enrolled, namely, Kempthorne-Prosser, Challenge Phosphate, Railway Workshops, Municipal Abattoirs. St. Joseph's, Passenger Transport, Returned Soldiers and Relief Workers. It was decided to commerce play on Saturday week. A sub-committee was appointed to inspect the pitches offering o:n Sturges Park and at the works. The following officers were ijlected:— Patron, Mr. H. T. Clements; president, Mr. F. W. Grey; secretary, Mr. L. J. BuckIcy; treasurer, Mr. G. Webber; committee, one delegate from each team entered.. _ A preliminary game under the association was played at the abattoirs ground on Saturday between the Passenger Transport Club and the Returned Soldiers' Association Club. The former scored 67 fDarby 22, Taylor 15). Bowling for Returned. Soldiers Association McLaren took iour wickets for 13, Wells three for 28 and Bright two for 14 Returned Soldiers' Association replied with 82 (Wells 24, Smith 22, I)eas 14). Bowling; Twiddle secured four wicket 3 for 2 runs, Taylor four for 25.
