HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. UNSETTLED. WITH RAIN. Tho following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening The westerly storm area is now located on the southern Tasnian Sea, and is moving eastward. Expect cloudy and unsettled weather, with rain in most districts, and heavy in western areas. Mainly fair for a short period along the east coast of the North Island, with warm temperatures. Northerly to north-westerly winds, moderate to strong, prevailing and freshening, and increasing strong to gale southward of New Plymouth and Napier. Seas rough and increasing on the west coast, particularly southward of Cape Egmont; mainly moderate seas 011 the east coast, but. rough in the Bay of Plenty. Local out look : Unsettled with rain at intervals. Mild temperatures. Barometer, midnight, falling .. ?9.90jn. Midnight, Wednesday .. 30.10 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to mid-night)--Maximum, 67deg.! Minimum. 43deg. government report. Tho Government- meteorologist reported last evening as follows:- —-A series of depressions has been moving over the I asman Sea and tho South Island and a slight cyclone has been centred to-day near West port, Pressure is high over the northern Tasm.in Sea and northein New Zealand. Indications are for freshening southerly winds in Otago; elsewhere moderate to strong northerly winds of gale force ,in districts about Cook Strait, backing to westerly and later to southwesterly in many places. Seas rough south of Cape Egmont and Cashpoint, elsewhere moderate. Strong westerly winds backing to southerly in the eastern Tasmari Sea, with rough seas. Weather unsettled and somewhat, squally with scattered rain in most districts, fin 'he,r heavy fcills on (ho west coast of the South Island, with some flooding; thunder in places. Temperatures becoming cooler to-morrow.
