CAR STRIKES POLE.
MAN RECEIVES CONCUSSION. ESCAPE OF THREE PASSENGERS. The driver of a motor-car suffered concussion and two other men and a wcman had fortunate escapes from serious injury when the vehicle in which they tvere riding crashed into a centre pole in Ponsonbv Road yesterday afternoon and was wrecked. The driver, Mr. Jack Farley, aged 23, single, of 3, Farrar Street, Ponsonby, was admitted to the Auckland Hospital. His condition last evening was not serious. A Maori passenger, Mrs. Puha, of 5, Day Street, Newton, was treated in the casualty ward for cuts to the face and was able to proceed home. The two other men were unhurt. The car, a touring model, was preceding along Ponsonby Road toward the Three Lamps and when near the West End Theatre it struck the pola broa Jsido on. The fcrce of the impact tore away the off-side running board and crashed the bodywork like matchwood. The c;ntre pole was considerably dented. The two off-side wheels were wrenched off, the hood wrecked and the windscreen broken. The radiator and the engine .were not damaged.
