TROTTING NOTES.

TRACK WORK AT EPSOM. AUTO MACHINE'S CONDITION. BENEFICE IN GOOD HEART. Tho dirt track at Epsom was in good> order yesterday when useful work was done by horses engaged at the Waikato and Auckland meetings this month. Many of those going to Eamilton were worked the reverse way round. Auto Machine (A. Brown) was not fully extended to register 3.42 for a mile and ahalf, coming home the last half very cosily in 1.11. Auto Machine looks a picture and will improve with a few eharp runs. Benefice (K. Morrison) was 6ent over two miles in 4.47. She ran the opening mile in 2.29, the third half in 1.8 and the fourth in 1.10. Dad's Hope (W. Clifton) gave Stormy Mack (G. Webb) a few lengths start over a mile and a-quarter and beat tho novice home in 2.52. l>ad's Hope ehowed a lot of dash and ran the last half in 1.8. Stormy Mack gave a creditable performance, registering 2.56 L tho last half in I.lo}. Torpedo Huon (J. McKendriok) worked strongly over two miles at about a 2.37 gait. Torpedo Iluon, who has not raced for some considerable time, is assuming good shape again. Oliver Thorpe (W. Willetts), I'rinco Etawah (A. Shepherd), Worthy Cause (A. J. Julian) and Explosion (W. Clifton) went away in that order for two miles, but the tiotter left his feet, early and loat a lot of ground. Oliver Thorpe made tho pace and passed the mile in 2.25 and was still in front at the mile and a-half Ln 3.35. A furlong further on Worthy Cause had had enough and Explosion again broke badly. Prince Etawah made a forward move in tho last quarter and hat a slight advantage over Oliver Thorpe at the end in 4.45. In spito of two bad lapses, Explosion ran 4.48. Great Ballin (I?. J. Smith) and Carnui (C. Smith), after working separately over a mile and a-half at a 2.10 gait, were given a solid run over a mile and a-qunrter Carnui went away first, but, showing a tare turn of speed, Great Ballin hold his stablemate at tho mile in 2.14. Over the final furlong Great Ballin tire<l and Carnui finished well clear in 2.51, running his last half in 1.9. Great Ballin was left without a dash after' his fast-run mile. Mr. Penalty (C! Smith) led Miss Braeside (F. J. Smith) foi a mile, when the maro moved up, and together they ran the half in 1.14, both going nicely. Carl Mack (F. J. Smith) worked soundly over a mile and. a-half and later had another tryout with Mr. Penalty. The two gave a good display, running the journey in 3.39, the last six furlongs at a 2.20 gait. Woodvale (A. G. Warnock) had Kewpie'a Triumph (J. Gee) as a companion in a good test over a mile and a-hulf in 3.33. Woodvale was holding Kewi>ie's Triumph safely at tho finish. Stoney (E. Tuke) paced resolutely oyer four circuits and appeared anxious to increase the speed. When allowed to step along over the last six furlongs he showed a 2.20 gait and was going very easily. Cleao (H. Hendriksenl displayed good form in a double task First she ran a mile and a-half at a shade better than a 2.30 gait. epriii'iiuß smartly over tho last quarter, and in her second essay 6he went evenly over a mile in 2.20, finishing strongly, which indicates she is improving in stamina. Gold Treasure (Julian) was not asked for his best, while traversing two miles in 4.50. He loafed in the early stages, but ran tho last half-mile comfortably in 1.10. Modern Light (G. Phipps) paced solidly over several circuits. She was not bustled at any stage, and going smoothly, covered the final lap at a 2.30 gait. Mountain Dell, who is suffering from a bruised foot, was walked on the grass on the centre of the track Dan Direct was given similar treatment, as he has a strained tendon. Nella Dillon, who ricked a tendon last week, reappeared but was not worked. The trotter Win Huon. who worked pleasingly last week-end, hqs been on the easy list during the last few days owing to soreness in tho shoulder.
