Veilmond beat Killarney by eight lengths over six furlongs in 1.19 J. Dennis Boy took 1.20 for six furlongs. Kodapen and Ranier were not extended over 5 furlongs, which they covered in 1.6. AMISS AFTER GALLOPING. SYDNEY, Oct. 1. After galloping at Randwick to-day the New Zealand gelding Cypress, who run a mile in 1.471. was in a bad way. He appears to have broken down and is an _ unlikely starter at the A.J.C. Spring Meeting. NEW ZEALAND-BRED MORSES. WESTERN AUSTRALIAN WINNERS. New Zealand-bred horses had a day out at Bclmolit Park. Western Australia, on September 19, Bonny Mole, winning the September Handicap, 11 miles, Orewa the Trial Stakes, H furlongs, and Stealth tho Welter Handicap. 71 furlongs. Orewa a six-year-old mare by Valkyrian from Hinerewa. was bred bv Mr. W. C. Ring, of lliuuera. Stealth is five years old, by Night Raid from Bendown. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE. TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP. S. Anderson is to ride Mr. W. G. Stead's fine two-year-old Pillow Fight at Napier Park to-morrow. Additional ruling engagements announced for tho Mitcbelson Cu>> 11 ra H. Goldfinch. Taneriri, and W. Broughton, Spearmiss. Ti. Fnulkiner, one of J! J'!. Hatch's apprentices, has been engaged to ride Cuticle. Rory Mor, Honanga and Anemometer at Napier Park to-morrow. T. .Green, who is coining from Rieciirton to vide Seatown, has also secured several other Diounls to-morrow and they include Orapai. Broken Rule, and Gibraltar. Although ho was out at walking exercise. Manawlienua was not worked yesterday, lie has been » trifle sore and it. is doubtful whether he will be a runner in the Shorts Handicnp to-morrow 11. I']. Covenev, who sulTercd a severe, fall at the Geraldine races last Thursday, regained consciousness 011 Tuesday. Ho is in the Timaru Hospital and his condition is stated to be satisfactory. The Son-in-Law horse Pliilamor, purchased in England for Mr. I" 1 . Higgs, of Riecarton, arrived by tho Rancitiki, and will go on to Wellington by tho steamer on his way to his new destination. Pace work on the sand was tho task allotted to Malahat yesterday, when he moved scralchily. He has been displaying signs of soreness for some days past, and. although it has been diminishing, he is not yet entirely rid of if. IT. Gray has been engaged to ride Silvermine. in the Flying Handicap to-morrow. Silvermine has been infusing plenty of dash into his work nnd he should make a bold showing, more especially as the easy state of the going will he to his liking. A. E. Ellis hopes to be in (he saddle again at Otaki next week. His brother, L. J. Ellis, was thinking of riding at Geraldine Inst week, but a ride in a track gallop convinced him that he was not yet fit to resume. Supremacy's finishing run 011 the outside into fourth position in the Flying Stakes at Avondale was characterised with a good deal of his "former dash and it should not be long before this fine spriuter is right back to form. Supremacy is at home in any kind of going and if he has the luck to draw an inside post position in the Shorts Handicap to-morrow he may prove very difficult to beat. H. Gray suffered considerable inconvenience from the injury to his eye caused by a flying clod during the Avondale Cup race last Saturday and the eye is etill inflamed At least one other rider met with similar trouble on tho same day, and such incidents show the difficulties of jockeys when racing under unfavourable track and weather conditions. An interesting acceptor for the Shorts Handicap to-morrow is last year's winner. Chromadyne, who has not raced since he failed among the sprinters at Te Rapa last April. When he won 12 months ago Chromadyne carried 8.0, but this year he has 7lb less. However, the field is much stronger this time and he will n<ied to have regained all his former dash i£ ho is to have a winning chance.
