THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. ACTIVE INVESTMENT MARKET. Active conditions continue in the investment market on tho Auckland Stock Exchange, which experienced another busy day yesterday. Lower prices were accepted for tho bulk of the turnover in Government loans. In War Bonds, 103U 4Jj per cents, tax free were done at .£96 10s, which is £2 lower than tho last transaction in the middle of September. Tho similar issue of Inscribed Stock was taken at the same figure, which represented an advance of 5s on tho last sale. Two transactions in 1937 51, per cent, bonds, 2s 6d easier, at £94 10s, failed to satisfy the demand in that direction. An easing of 5s was registered in 1937 5j per cent. Inscribed Stock, which was also taken at £94 10s. Banks were firm and sellers operated less freely. A fall of a penny took place in Commercials of Australia, which were done at 13s 2d, more being available at tho price. Now South Wales made 2s fid less at £25. New Zealands gained further ground, changing hands first Is higher at 445. Subsequent business was rlono at 44s Id and 44s 2d, and later tho market eased a shade in a closing transaction at 445, which price was offering for moro. Firm levels existed for insurance. In loan and agency tho only change of note was tho withdrawal of offers for Goldsbrough-Morts, which were still available at 21s Cd. Auckland Gas were in steady request and made a current-price salo at 23s 2d. A fall of 4s 6d on tho level of tho last salo in July took place in Pevonport Ferries, which sold at 15s. Tho miscellaneous section was fairly quiet. There was an improvement of 3d in Wilsons Cements and New Zealand Refrigeratings also registered firmer levels in a deal at 10s. Interest in mining was strong and Waihis made a further advance of a penny to change hands at 16s 2d. Grand Junctions were taken at the current price of 4s and were later secured at 3s lid.
