HEADED FOR ROME.
SMITH'S FAST FLIGHT / ALEPPO ON SIXTH DAY. many difficulties. SANDSTORMS AND WIND. OIL TROUBLE REMEDIED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received September 30. 8.5 p.m.) E'AGDAD, Sept. 30. 'Air-Commodore Kingsford Smith, who is attempting to beat Mr. J. A. MolliBon's record of 8 days 22 hours 25 minutes for the flight from Australia to England, arrived at Bagdad at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. ' The airman refilled the petrol tank of the Southern Cross Minor and left for Aleppo 20 minutes later. He arrived there at 11 P-m. and departed for Rome 8 t 4 a.m. to-day. Mr. Smith's journey from Jask bristled with difficulties. Owing to sandstorms and a head wind he was forced to turn back and land at Bushire after he had passed that town. There he remedied oil trouble in his machine. The airman, who was very tired, was cheered as he took off at Bagdad for the journey to Aleppo, 500 miles across the desert, which, however, presented no difficulties as it was moonlight and the wind had decreased.
