RAILWAY RETIREMENTS.
MEN FROM OTAHUHU. Included in the railway servants of over 30 years' scrvico who have been retired under (he Railway Board's latest economy scheme, are 13 men, employees of the Otahuhu workshops, whose term of scrvico expired yesterday. Considerable dissatisfaction has been expressed by the men at their early retirement. A resolution deploring tho fact that young members of the operating staff of tho Railway Department should have their services dispensed with after attaining 30 years' service, while high-salaried members of the administrative staff, who had reached the full retiring limit, were retained was passed at tho last meeting of the Auckland District Railway Guards' Club. The resolution .stated that the manner in which tlie Finance Act, 1931, was being administered was a repudiation of a contract, and the club urged its executive council to have tho validity of the department's actions tested.
