"DOSS HOUSE" ASSAULT.
ATTACK ON MANAGER. • INCIDENT IN DORMITORY, f KNOCKED DOWN AND KICKED. OTHER OCCUPANTS LOOK ON. The manager of the "doss house," Mr. Albert Wilson, was the victim of a brutal assault on Monday night. A young man who had been staying at the shelter had broken its rules by using "language" and behaving in an aggressive manner, and Mr. Wilson had decided that he must leave. Entering the dormitory he quietly told the man to pack his f raps and go. As he turned away the y. ung man struck him cn the head and knocked him down. He fell between two beus and then the assailant commenced t<, use , his boots, Mr. Wilson was savagely kicked about the limbs and body. Yesterday .he was walking with a limp. He had abrasions on hi§ shins, bruises all over the body, and two black eyes. The attack lasted several minutes and then the man dashed away. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. A grave feature of the affair was that although there was a crowd of men in the dormitory no hand was raised in Mr. Wilson's defence. It is believed that those who might have intervened were intimidated by the assailant's friends. Mr. Wilson remarked yesterday with a rueful smile that the average of misconduct was not high at the shelter. In 16 months it had been necessary to bring only three men before the Court. The assailant, it is understood, had been a resident of the shelter previously and had then displayed an aggressive disposition.
