BOWLING NOTES.

SUMMER SEASON AT HAND. CLUB OPENINGS ARRANGED. BY SKIP. The weather on Saturday was unfavourable for bowling and consequently the attendances on many of the winter greens suffered. At Onehunga a small band of enthusiasts representing tho Grammar Old Boys tried conclusions with the local players. Tho runner-up in the Australian championship, H. A. Robertson, was seen in action and gave evidence of his present form by defeating handsomely so noted a performer as M. Walker. Robertson was deadly on his drive, which fact accounted for mucli, of his success. Signs that the summer season is at hand are evidenced by (ho fact that three clubs hava arranged official openings next Saturday. Two of the clubs are country ones, Pukekohe and Papatoetoe, while the other is Hallyburton-Johnstone. The following week there are more openings and quite a number aro set down for the following Saturday. There was no game in tho Edwin Stars challenge series last Saturday on account of tho holder's green, Rocky Nook, being too wet for play. The same challengers, DenisonV Balmoral rink, will piny tho holders next Saturday. The Ponsonby green was in very fair order when tho challengers, Burrows' Waitemata rink, arrived to play Dick's team on Saturday for the Denison Pins. The green fine running qualities and th* plftyors were agreeably surprised at tho pace produced, considering tho amount of wet weather experienced lately. Waitemata, chiefly through the play of the challenging front division men, Robertson and Rogers, who outplayed their respectivo opponents, gained a fairly easy win. Robertson, the lead of the team, has had only two seasons' play, hut has learned the requirements of the same to a surprising degree. Burrows saved well when necessary, although he had an easier task than Dick, who was to settle down to his usual steady order of play. Matthews, the Ponsonby number three, again played a good game and was unlucky on many occasions in missing his objective by narrow margins. Vivian's Mount Eden team will be the next challenger and the game is set down for Popsonby, as the Waitemata green in not yet ready for play. Gardiner and his strong Otahuhu combination had no difficulty in winning the final of the Ellerslie tourney on Saturday from the Ederidale team. Tho Otahuhu team is always a strong one and it must now have a fairly long string of successes to its credit
