MAN AND WIFE ARRESTED. ■THEFT FROM CHINESE SHOP. A charge of petty shoplifting was jointly preferred against William Alexander Moore, aged 47, labourer, and his ■wife, Margaret Agatha Moore, aged 41, in the Police Court yesterday. The man admitted the offence, but the woman pleaded riot guilty. Roth were represented by Mr. Ack ins. Detective-Sergeant Kelly stated that about 4.15 p.m. on Monday Constable Hvnds was informed that' accused had stolen some vegetables from a Chinese fruiterer's shop in Karangahape Road. The constable followed accused and found that the inari was carrying a cabbage and a bag of potatoes. Both were known to the police as shoplifters. One of the constables who gave evidence sa'il that although the woman denied the theft, several of the stolen potatoes were discovered in her handbag. In sentencing each of the accused to fieven days' imprisonment, the magistrate, Mr. F. ft. Ilunt, remarked that the woman had appeared before the Court on 12 previous occasions for various offences -111e man, he said, had on>2 earlier conviction for s-hiplifting.
