ESCAPE FROM FIRE.
TWO PEOPLE RESCUED* CAUGHT IN BURNING HOUSE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Saturday. Two occupants of a wooden house in Vivian Street had to escape through a window on to a verandah when they discovered the building ablaze early this morning. The fire brigade, which received the call at 2.28, was quickly on the scene and rescued the two people by means of ladders. The building was well alight when the brigade arrived. The adjoining house was also alight, but the brigade made a good save and prevented any serious damage. The first house, which is owned by the Downes Estate, and occupied by Mr. George S. Groves, suffered extensively.
