TRACK WORK AT EPSOM.

MOUNTAIN DELL AS SPRINTER. The tracks at Epsom were in very fair order yesterday, but a strong wind militated against fast times. Not many of the candidates were sent against the watch. Mountain Dell (L. Mitchell) worked lazily over a mile and a-half in 3.38. She ran the last couple of furlongs at a sound clip. Mountain Dell is being prepared for sprint racing at the Auckland Spring Meeting and in spite of her tight mark she should be capable of running a merry eight and ten furlongs.

Carl Mack (F. J. Smith) was not fully extended while trotting over two miles. He did his work well and when allowed to increase the speed on the last lap rolled into his task in fine style. Carl Mack has settled down to his work very steadily lately and he should race prominently in his Claudelands engagement. Cleao (G. Webb) paced resolutely over two miles. She was accompanied over the major portion of the last mile by The Triumph—Harvest Home colt (F. J. Smith), who gave a solid display. The pace was increased over the final six furlongs, the colt being eased a-quarter from home. Finishing up her task strongly. Cleao ran the last half-mile in 1.11 3-5. The mare stayed on well and may be a starter in the slow two miles race at Hamilton.

Tuuiatakuru (F. J. Smith) was given several rounds of solid pacing, running home smartly over the last three furlongs. When worked by himself Tnmatakuru is lazy and even when stepping along briskly will ease up if not kept up to his work. Tumatakuru is standing up to his tasks in good style and appears to be improving in stamina. Golden Huia (G. F. Lovegrove). accompanied by her half-sister (C. G. Lee) and Annie Emma (G. Stubbs). made a useful attempt over a mile and a-half. The three trotters went evenly and when the pace was increased over the final half-mile to n '2.35 gait, no mistakes wero made. Golden Huia had the advantage at the end, but Annie Emma was not driven right out. Golden Uuia's relative gavo a very promising display for a novice. Jock Binnen (F. J. Smith) rnn the first circuit of a mile and five furlongs at a 2.20 clip and was then steadied, although the trotter appeared anxious to maintain the speed all the way. When given his head again over the last three furlongs Jock Bingen trotted fast and accurately. He is in great order for forthcoming engagements.

La Triumph (E. Tuke) paced attractively over a mile and n-half and when allowed to increase the speed over the final circuit showed ft 2.20 gait La Triumph has furnished into a nice-looking filly, and is coming along promisingly in her work. She is inclined to be nervy when taken on the track, but once she gets used to company she will get over this defect. Stormy Mack (G. Webb) showed plenty of solidity while travelling over three circuits, although ho was not on a time mission The *AI Mack novice displayed a good turn of speed over the last five furlongs Stormy Mack is making good progress, and while ho will probably require racing experience, he should prove useful later on. Kincsclere. who durine the last few sea sons has performed creditably, especially in saddle, has joined F J. Smith's stable at Epsom The Advance pacer has put on n lot of condition eince he last appeared in public, and it will be some time before He is ready to display his best again. Through picking up a nail in one of her feet Etta Cole has been on the easy list for a couple of days, but the injury is not serious, and the Peterwah mare will soon resume duty again. Etta Cole will be handily placed in the two miles trotting events at Epsom next month.
