BIRD ON A TREE.

I saw a little bird upon a tree, And the little bird was singing merrily; But though I listened long For the subject of his song, I couldn't catch a word of it yon see. But oh! it did me good, Though I never understood, For he sang—he sang— so very heartily. I think he meant to tell me, in hig way, ' He sang because his little heart was gay,And wanted me to show All the children whom I know The way a merry heart can cheer.the day Like all good children do, By being kind and true, And singing like the bird upon the spray. By Edith Millar, Whitford. (Age 14 years.) Copied.
