AFFAIRS OF THE CITY.

blockhouse bay beach. TEPID BATHS CHARGES. A letter was received by the City Council last evening from the Blockhouse Bay Improvement Association, reminding tin. council of promises by its predecessor that improvements would be made to the foreshore of the bay by reclamation and protective works, toward the cost of i which the residents had subscribed £IOO. ! The association suggested that although the council was short of funds it might be able to start the scheme as an unemployment relief work. A suggestion was received frorn the Tamaki Women's Progressive, League that although the land immediately round Lake Waiatarua could not be dealt with for some years to come, a start might be made with tree-planting and preliminary improvements on the higher areas of the park. The two proposals were referred to the Parks Committee. It was resolved to enter an objection against, the proposal to relieve the, Helensvillc Town District from contributing to the maintenance of the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Regarding an application by Bishop Liston that Reeves Road, off Mountain Road, be formed in order to give access to a property on which it was intended to erect a Roman Catholic school and teachers' residence at a cost of about £IO.OOO, the Works Committee recommended that formation to a modified standard be undertaken as an unemployment relief work at an estimated cost of £425. It had been pointed out that the bishop had paid a considerable, sum in rates on ihe property, the amount to last year being £lls. The report was adopted. On the recommendation of the Parks Committee, it was decided to reduce the charge to children at the Hobson Street Baths from 3d to 2d as from October 1. and to issue adults' concession cards at 2s for six admissions.
