HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. FINE AND BRIGHT. The following weather forecast ior 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:—An area of high barometric pressure, enclosing a fine weather system, has moved on to the Dominio'n. A cyclone is crossing the northern Tasman Sea. Expect fair to fine weather in most districts, although scattered showers are likely in places near the east coast. Southerly to south-easterly winds, moderate to strong, decreasing. Fairly rough though moderating seas on the east coast, smooth to moderate seas on other coasts. Cold night temperatures, with some frosts inland. Local outlook: Fine and bright. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.90 in, Midnight, Tuesday .. .. 29.75 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 60cleg.; Minimum, 45deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported lftst evening as follows: The recent depression is passing eastward and an anticyclone is advancing toward the Dominion, its centre at present being located in the north-vyest Tasman Sea. Pressure is falling over south-eastern Australia, a disturbance of the westerly type having moved rapidly across the Australian Bight. Indications ate for southerly winds, strong at places in the North Island, but decreasing, and elsewhere moderate, veering shortly to westerly and northerly. Seas rough between Kaikoura and East Cape and on the west coast of the North Island, smooth to moderate elsewhere. Fresh south-westerly winds in the northern portion of the Tasman Sea with rather rough seas. Moderate westerly to north-westerly winds in the central and sQuthern portions, with moderate seas. The weather will be changeable with scattered showers in the North Island, mainly fair to fine in the South Island and soon becoming fine generally. Cold temperatures with some inland frosts tonight.
