HUGHES-JOHNS CONTEST.
Writir.„- of tl'.e bout between ITarry Johns and Archit* Hughes in Auckland last May, a boxing critic said it was one of the best, contests staged during recent years, and -if the-end of IS rounds the pair were nbont level on points. On that occasion the decision went to Johns, but Hushes is confident he will avenge that defeat when he meets the Auckland and Npav Zealand light-weight champion at the Town Hall next- Monday evening. The return contest should be even more interesting than the previous encounter for two reasons; in the first place because Hughes will not want to'be beaten again, and will be endeavour ing to avenge the previous defeat, awl secondly because the winner will be matches with Bluy and Delnney When they cqrne from Australia. Both Johns and Hughes are in hard training and a great match can be confidently expected. An excell#ft amateur programme has also been arranged ns follows:—J. McLachlan v. ' A." Spragp, Burgess v. Croul, Mullins v.Broadhead, Preston v. Parsons, and as an emergency bout. Ball v. C. Smitli.
