AUCKLAND UNION MEETING.

APPRECIATION OF REFEREE. DISTRIBUTIONS TO CHARITY. Arising out of t!ie recent retirement of Mr. F. E. Sutherland it was resolved at last evening's meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Rugby Union to incorporate the following motion in a letter of appreciation to be sent to that popular referee:—That on the occasion of his rot.irement from active refereeing the union desired to place on record its keen appreciation of the services rendered to Rugby football by Mr. F. E. Sutherland, and desired particularly to commend him on the very efficient and impartial manner in which he always controlled the games entrusted to him. The union further expressed the hope that Mr. Sutherland would continue to give the Auckland Rugby Union the benefit of his long experience by retaining an active interest in the advancement la£ the game. The, committee acreed to donate the total sum of £1515 to the St. John Ambulance Brigade and various charitable intitutions. Congratulations were extended to Mr. C. F. Faull upon his appointment to control the match between Australia and Waikato played at Hamilton yesterday. The College Rifles and Technical Old Boys' Clubs were granted permission to travel to Rotorua, and Pukekohe respectively on Saturday. It waa decided to 3end a letter of congratulation to the Technical Old Boys' Club on iU winning the Pollard Cup competition. On the motion of the chairman it waa decided to send a letter of condolence to the parents of the lute Mr. W. Stanton, who lost his life at the National Park. Members of the committee stood in. silence n3 a mark of respect.
