START NOT YET MADE. [FROM orn OWN COK RESPONDENT. ] THAMES, Wednesday. The Thames Chamber of Commerce lias marie many representations that the long promised chief post office for Thames should he started, in view of the Post-master-General's promises that the work would start at the beginning of the present financial year. About two months ago some boring gear was landed .and the sections purchased by the Government in Pollen Street Central were tested for foundations. The site is on the old foreshore and is largely composed of shell and sea mud covered with mullock from the mines. The following telegram has been received by the Mayor, Mr. S. Ensor, from the Postmaster-General"The matter of tenders for the new post, office is being pushed on, but it will take a little longer than' anticipated, as it is now realised that provision must be made against earthquakes and a steel framed building will be necessary."
