They travelled up hill ! as far as the snowline before returning | to the Chateau. It is likely that a party of searchers will go up the Makatote Valley again during the week-end. MISSING EQUIPMENT. CHATEAU LOSES £3OO WORTH. As a sequel to the search for the missing climbers on Ruapehu, the Chateau has been faced with the loss of nearly £SOO worth of alpine equipment. Many of the articles, including heavy boots, riding trousers, rucksacks, socks, gloves, capes and snow goggles, were issued to searchers who were setting out in the stoow inadequately clothed. Some of it was lost on the mountain and some of it was not returned. The missing equipment includes 60 pairs of boots and 50 pairs of riding trousers. It will all have to be replaced in stock. THE AUCKLAND FUND. PLANS FOR ALLOCATION. Correspondence is in progress between the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, and the chairman of the National Park Board, Mr. W. Robertson, concerning the disposal of the £7OO subscribed in Auckland as a testimonial to those who searched for the missing trampers on Ruapehu. Mr. Hutchison, who is a member of the board ex officio, stated yesterday that it had been suggested that certain leading men in the district should be invited to confer with representatives of the board in order to arrive at an equitable method of distribution. He was awaiting a reply from the chairman, who, he believed, was discussing the matter in Wellington with the manager of the Chateau, Mr. R. Cobbe.
