WOMEN VOCALISTS.
A CANDID CRITICISM. Mr. Reginald Jacnucs, Director of Music at Queen's Comoro, Oxford, had somo hard things to say about women vocalists at tho Summer Course of Music Teaching, hold rccontly in the University town. " Contraltos are rather apt to moo, and feminities generally very seldom seem to complete a vowel properly," ho said. " They nearly always do it worso than men, although thoy make lip for it in other ways. " But women really aro liablo to certain vocal vices to which moil aro not. For instance, they never say a 'W ' properly. They do not prepare their mouths as carefully as mon do. (Shouts of 'We do.') Always make people say the words before you let them sing them. Got their minds in front of their voices." Speaking of women choral conductors, Mr. Jacques said: " Your particular sex is apt to be too infernally graceful in your conducting. You try to bo too swanlike, and uso too much curve. Thore must bo decision in conducting."
