S.M., on charges arising from the j j eviction of tenants from a house in Hard- ! [ inge Street, Freeman's Bay. on Septem- ! ber 5. j George Dale and Henry Wood ruffe 1 were charged with wilfully damaging Ihc house by painting on it the. words, "No work, no rent; stop the eviction." and with encouraging lawlessness by means of the words. Hannah Hansen, married, and the tenant of the house at the time, was charged with abetting the men in the commission of the offence. Mr. Schramm appeared for Dale and Mrs. .Hansen, and Mr. Sullivan for Woodruffc. The magistrate dismissed the charge against the woman. The prosecution against, the men for encouraging lawlessness,* was not, proceeded with, but, for committing wilful damage, each was fined 10s arid ordered to pay £2 ss, the cost of the. damage being £4 10s.
