HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. UNSETTLED, WITH RAIN. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.in. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:—The intense westerly depression still -covers the southern Tasman Sea, and extends to the South Island. Expect unsettled, squally weather, with heavy showers in most districts, particularly in western areas. Heavy rain is indicated in soul hern districts, with Hooded rivers in places near the west coast. Mild temperatures, becoming colder after about 18 hours. North-westerly winds, strong to gale, backing to south-west. Rough seas on the west coast, especially southward from Cape Egmont. Local outlook: Unsettled, with lain. Conditions arc likely to become very boisterous. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 29.701 H. Midnight, Monday .. .. 29.90 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight ) Maximum, 62deg.; Minimum, 50deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —A narrow ridge of high pressure has been crossing the Dominion to-day and the barometer has already commenced to fall again with the approach of an intense depression from tho westward. Indications are for moderate to strong northerly to westerly winds, rising to gale lorco in many places, backing temporarily to south-westerly soon in the far south. Seas rough on the west coast and about Cook and I'ovcaux Straits, elsewhere moderate. Strong northerly to westerly winds to gales, with rough to heavy seas in the lasinan Sea. The weather will be unsettled in distiicts with a westerly aspect and in Otago, with rain and many heavy falls. I'air to cloudy and mild weather at first in eastern districts, but shortly becoming unsettled and squally generally. RAINFALL RECORD.
