STRAWBERRY BEDS.

* NEEDS OF THE PLANTS. Strawberry beds should at this time have special attention, effort being made to induce the plants to make as healthy growth as possible. Weeds at this time are most troublesome so that frequent hoeing is necessary to keep them under control. Keeping the soil constantly stirred in any case is the means of promoting growth, and should be continued until the plants are sufficiently advanced for mulching, while a good sprinkling of superphosphate can be applied with advantage. Provision should be made for securing material for mulching, so that there will be no delay when tho time to apply it arrives. Strawy, stable manure, when obtainable, is an excellent material for the purpose, as it contains much manurial properties that will be conveyed to the roots by the rain, while the strawy portion provides the mulch for the plants.
