NATIVE VILLAGE DRAINAGE.
A DIFFICULT TASK. Plans are at present being prepared for the drainage of Whakarewarewa native village at Rotorua,, and in carrying out the scheme the borough drainage engineer, Mr. F. J. Lenihan, -will be faced with some unique problems. The hot springs and gases which permeate the ground in the vicinity of the village, together with the crumbling nature of the soil, will make the preparation and execution of a suitable scheme a matter of peculiar difficulty. The unexpected frequently disturbs the accepted tenets of engineering in Rotorua.
