AUCKLAND POLICE FORCE.
I GRAND CHARITY BALL. GAY SCENE IN TOWN HALL. A grand charity ball, organised by members of the Auckland police force, was held in the Town Hall last evening and proved an unqualified success. The. decorations were most effectively carried out and, combining their bright colours with those of the many pretty frocks, ! provided a very animated and brilliant scene. Flags of all nations were suspended over the gallery, beneath these 5 being hung baskets of asparagus fern, while the stage was attractively arranged as a lounge, a trellis-work at the back ; showing in effective relief against the > dark blue curtains. Bridge was played by some of the guests at the far end of the hall, a portion of which was curtained off and lit with Chinese lanterns. ' A feature of the evening was the music, which was rendered continuously by the i Blind Institute, Bolton's Apache and Uitz Orchestras. An expression of thanks to the Mayor and councillors and others who bad assisted in the organisation of j the ball was made by Superintendent S. - Till On arrival the guests we;e received j> by Superintendent and Mrs. Till, and Inspector J. W. Hollis and Mrs. Hollis. Among those present were:—Mrs. Till, who wore a frock of black satin with a 1 black chenille coatee; Mrs. Hollis, in black beaded georgette and lace; Mrs. ' T. Shanahan, cocoa-brown floral chiffon; I Mrs. M. Fleming, black georgette; Mrs. ( F. Hammond, black georgette with a gold L and blue brocaded wrap; Mrs. M. Flani- , gan, black chiffon; Mrs. R. T. Issell, tur- ! quoiso blue georgette; Mrs. J. W. • Claasan, mauve floral taffeta; Mrs. K. i Moynahan, bois de rose georgette emi broidered with silver beads; Miss Eden, 1 black georgette; Miss Basten, green and gold lace; Miss A. Basten, black velvet embroidered with diamante; Mrs. F. Fuller, peach satin and lace; Mrs. H. Rainger, black georgette; Mrs. Whyman, black georgette; Mrs. McAneny, black georgette beaded in silver; Mrs. J. Fitzgerald, navy floral chiffon. Mrs. C. P. Stitchbury wore black panne j velvet with a gold brocaded coatee; Mrs. Allen, cyclamen georgette; Mrs. Cullen, navy blue georgette with a tulle hem; Mrs C. Kimbley, turquoise blue satin; Miss Fsgan, black panne velvet; Mrs. G. Lambert, black figured lace; Mrs. Almond, black lace; Mrs. Auber-Jones, black satin beaute; Mrs. Cardale, black and primrose floral chiffon; Miss D. Farquhar, black georgette with a cerise velvet wrap; Mrs. Bauckham, cameo pink georgette with beaded embroideries; Miss Whittaker, green floral chiffon; Mrs. McNamara (Thames), black georgette; Mrs. Cucksev, black and gold brocade; Mrs. H. J. Wilson, white souple satin; Mrs. O'Neil, salmon pink embossed chenille georgette; Miss Mary Spellman, apple green satin; Miss Ryan, orange georgette; Miss Cassin, orchid taffeta; Miss Moynahan, shell pink taffeta; Miss Eileen Shanahan, liqueur red satin; Miss Conway, black georgette; Miss K. Flanagan, lacquer red georgette; Miss McLuckie, apricot taffeta.
